It's hard to believe it's August with the weather we've been having. It's been very dry, which is not good. But we have been having highs in the mid 80's for the last 2 weeks, with lows in the high 50's and low 60's at night. This is so unusual!! But we're enjoying it. It is great weather for the kids to play outside. I wouldn't mind some rain though. Our garden is doing pretty well. The watermelons are finally starting to be ready. We have had so many cucumbers we don't know what to do with them all. We've had several yellow squash, zucchini, Roma tomatoes, and tons of grape tomatoes. We have one big pumpkin right now. I'm hoping it will hold up and not go rotten so we can use it as our Halloween Jack-O-Lantern. Or hopefully we'll get some others before then. We thought our cantelope plant had died, but it's starting to produce some fruit. Next year we are going to enlarge the garden and prepare it better than we did this time. Hopefully when we do that we'll get better corn than we got this year. It tasted good, but had lots of brown spots. We're learning, and didn't do too poorly this year!

We have finally been getting some much-needed rain. Thank goodness for that. It is really helping our vegetable garden. This is our first year planting one, and we are just starting to get some vegetables out of it. Our corn is looking good, but it's still weeks away from being ready to eat. Our tomatoes are doing well, and we've been able to eat some of the grape tomatoes already. They never make it into the house. We thought we had killed our other two tomato plants (romas and better boys) by moving them, but they're starting to show signs of life again, and the fruit on them seems to be okay. We have quite a few squashes of different varieties: spaghetti, zucchini and yellow almost ready to eat. We got a cucumber from the garden yesterday and ate it, and there are several more of those coming in. Plus our watermelon plant has started getting some fruit. We're having fun with the garden, and with the price of produce going up with the price of gas, hopefully we'll save some money on vegetables in the long run. Hopefully the garden will survive our trip. We've asked a neighbor boy to turn the sprinkler on once in a while while we're gone. The rain has made it humid, because it's still really hot, so it's a little bit unbearable outside. I guess I shouldn't complain though. We're getting rain and we've really been needing it.

Ok, it's officially hot. It seems like we transitioned from Spring to Summer overnight. Really. Not complaining though, except we were enjoying the cool nights with the windows open, but can't do that anymore. We've had a lot of rain too, so it's humid, and we need to run the a/c to make it not so sticky in the house. But the pool is open now and we're planning to spend loads of time there.

Finally! Warmer weather is here! Melanie has been asking to go to the swimming pool since the middle of Winter, and now it's finally going to open next week. We have signed up for a Clarksville pool pass and the girls will start swimming lessons on June 16th. Over the weekend, we had out the inflatable wading pool and the Slip 'n Slide. It's so nice to have warm weather so the kids can play outside again!
